Leader’s Letter ~ July 2008 E-News
Celebrating Independence!
by Greg Ruehle, Chief Executive Officer

What a busy year – by the time you read this, the calendar for 2008 will show us at the midpoint of yet another year. Time certainly does fly when you’re having … fun!

It has been a busy year at IPSA – a successful Annual Meeting, a new round of research projects, a new logo and branding campaign, and on and on. The balance of this year will remain just as busy – planning for Board meetings, presence at Farm Progress Show, planning for the Production Panel this fall, and ultimately planning final details for the 20th Annual Conference.

But before all that, lets take a few minutes to celebrate America’s independence – the spirit that has made this country the envy of the world (contrary to what a few might think)! Late this week and over the weekend, America will celebrate its 232nd birthday. Take a minute to take time with friends and family! Holiday Thought

I also wanted to take a moment of personal privilege and share with you an essay submitted by our 8-year old daughter Grace for a hometown essay contest in conjunction with the July 4th festivities.

I like to live here because....

I have the freedom to pick the friends I want, no matter what color or religion they are because I agree with what President Abraham Lincoln said, "All men are created equal."

I have the freedom to pick any books I want to read at the library because I agree with what President Thomas Jefferson said, "I cannot live without books."

I have the freedom to go to a great elementary school with great teachers who help me learn because Benjamin Franklin said, "Education begins with life."

I have the freedom to watch any movie I want at the theatre because President Ronald Reagan said, "To grasp and hold a vision that is the very essence of successful leadership -- not only on the movie set where I learned it, but everywhere."

I have the freedom to go to the county fair where I will show my heifers because President Theodore Roosevelt said, "Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard and work worth doing."

I have the freedom to own a boutique with my mother because Thomas Wolfe said, "...to every man, regardless of his birth, his shining, golden opportunity...the right to live, to work, to be himself, and to become whatever thing his manhood and his vision can combine to make him."

Is this the American dream? With all these things I have told you, this is my American Dream and I know that I am living it.

From our house to yours, have a tremendous July 4th and a memorable summer! (read more...)
